public space in linz (the capital of upper austria) is becoming increasingly regulated. a new city ordinance has put an end to the long-practised and tolerated practice of wild postering, a shift that especially affects cultural, and artistic actors. posters from independent art and cultural institutions, once an integral part of the cityscape and an indicator of cultural activities, are now restricted to a few selected legal spots on the sidelines. what remains visible are commercial and political ads — those that can afford to be seen.
plakatropolis is a city-wide poster festival reclaiming public space for artistic expression and cultural initiatives.
with my poster i am here, i want to say that even if we are regulated away, we are still here! we take our place. wherever it may be. we want to be seen.
i am a poster – i want to be seen.
